Until now, we have had little contact with the school itself. However, for some of the children from our primary school classes, it is already clear that they will move on to this school after grade 6.
At one of our recent official meetings with the local authorities, the Commune Chief told us that 50 students at this very school have dropped out early.. Most of them are girls.

WHEN EVERY HAND COUNTS

Grades 7 to 9 are often a critical turning point. At this stage, the young people are between 13 and 18 years old. In our villages, we see again and again that at this age they are expected to contribute to the family income, whether in the fields, on construction sites, or through odd jobs.
At the same time, school costs rise after primary school. Families who are struggling the most often feel forced to take their children out of school at this point, if not sooner. Sometimes young people also decide to stop on their own, for example because they want to support their parents.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHERE WE STEP IN

50 young people who no longer go to school means 50 young lives whose futures have suddenly become far more uncertain.
